Supporting parents and caregivers of children with specific learning differences

We support parents and whanau with information and understanding about learning differences that include:

  • Dyslexia
  • Dyscalculia
  • Dysgraphia
  • Dyspraxia
  • Visual stress
  • Auditory Processing Disorder
  • Slower processing abilities

Supporting a child who has a learning difference can be a journey filled with highs and lows. Behind every child is an advocate who fights the battles and is there for them when the journey is long and difficult. Dyslexia Support South recognises the importance of this advocate, be it a parent, a caregiver, or an educator and aim to provide the support these advocates need to be the best they can for their child.

To support our advocates we have collated information on this website, on types of learning differences, interventions available in Southland, the impact of learning stress, assessment options and information on upcoming events, they can use to support themselves and that young person who has a learning difference.

We are available to answer your personal questions and help you with the next steps in your journey so you can make the best informed decision.

“DSS helped me connect with a tutor who knew about Irlen Syndrome and she changed my son’s life.”
