Assessment options in Southland and New Zealand
Dyslexia Assessments
Before arranging a full diagnosis report, parents and caregivers are encouraged to check with their child’s school. Some schools carry out their own in-house screening to activate support or may have processes in place to support a student without needing an external report.
School contacts
Talk with your child’s teacher, the SENCO (Special Education Needs Coordinator) or LSC (Learning Support Co-ordinator). You may want to ask what support would be provided if your child is assessed as dyslexic.
How many reports?
Diagnosis reports now do not need to be repeated and is generally sufficient to support your child throughout their schooling. In the past, reports were treated as valid for only four calendar years, but this is no longer the case.
